one、Disadvantages of traditional coatings (3C2B):
1、At present, water-borne cathodic electrophoretic coating for primer is widely applied in automobile industry and other metal coating sectors related to building materials, hardware, appliances, etc,. The primer, after drying, will be covered with solvent-based finishing coat, and then the solvent-based finishing coat will be covered by solvent-based varnish, hence the name of 3C2B process. The coating method costs lots of energy and causes serious pollutions to the environment, which completely runs counter to the trend of environmental protection.
2、For the current coating method, due to the great difference of product structure between water-borne cathodic electrophoretic coating and solvent-based finishing coat and varnish, the adhesion between primer and finishing coat is very poor, which frequently leads to the separation among coatings, thus severely affecting product performance.
two、Features of 3C1B:
1、3C1B water-borne coatings can provide a good film appearance and resistance from scaling, and form several coating films on the car body or outer cover panels. The primer adapts water-borne cathodic electrophoretic coating to enhance corrosion resistance of metal parts. The water-borne surface and finishing coatings are of excellent ageing resistance.
2、3C1B water-borne coatings are single-package. After applying cathode electrophoretic coating as primer to workpieces, water-borne surface coatings and then water-borne finishing varnish coatings will be applied and baked. The three layers of films will be cured simultaneously, and the three layers of coatings will be hydrated. The resulted adhesion between coatings is superior than that achieved by 3C2B. In addition, color transfer among the three coats will not occur.
3、For 3C1B water-borne coating film-forming matters, the polyether-modified cationic acrylic resin with comb-type structure is used to pack pigment and filler, which can anchor particles of pigment and filler and avoid the hue on surface transferring to the primer and varnish. Meanwhile, the nano titanium sol is introduced to avoid the transference of pigment and filler, and the wet-to-wet process (film will not be baked after coating, and a spraying will be made on the film) can significantly enhance the adhesion among layers, which makes it applicable to metal parts.
